Dr. Joseph George
is a practicing psychological counsellor in Bangalore, with 35 years of
teaching, counselling, and clinical training experiences.
George comes with
the commitment for listening to persons, couples, and families with a view to
provide care, support, discernment and helping them to address their pressing
concerns and live with meaning and purpose.
He has a BA Degree (Sociology),
Bachelor of Theology (ABS), Bachelor of Divinity (UBS, Yavatmal), Master of
Theology (Pastoral Counselling) UTC, Bangalore, and his Doctor of Theology
(Th.D.) from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He obtained his advanced
level clinical training at the Georgia Association for Pastoral Care.
Along with providing training
for counselling work at the Diploma, Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral level, he
has been engaged with providing supervision for professional counsellors since
1992. George has mentored more than 60 students in their Master of Theology dissertation
and 19 Doctoral students as well as training students for professional
counselling at the UTC, Bangalore.
Prior to joining UTC,
he was on the faculty of Clark Theological College, Aolijen, Mokokchung,
Nagaland for nearly 10 years (1983-1992).
Since 2001 Dr.
George has been associated with a number of NGOs working at the grassroot level
in terms of training and mentoring the counsellors and social workers.
Dr. George employs
an eclectic approach in his counselling work, drawing more from psychoanalytic,
object relations, and positive psychologies.
Post-Retirement from UTC in May 2021, along with helping the doctoral students at UTC, he serves as adjunct faculty with SAIACS and ACTS academy. He is also associated with Jeevanithi (Mangalore), a rehabilitation home
for persons with addictions and is
the President of the Medico-Pastoral Association, Bangalore (2020-2022 &
2022-2024), the premier residential rehabilitation home for the mentally ill
persons. Dr. George is also the
Secretary of the International Council for Pastoral Care and Counselling
(ICPCC) 2019-2023.
